CORALS TO FIGHT CANCER!
TUNZE® & Coral Biome ― Partners for innovation
The Interzoo 2014 served as a suitable platform for Coral Biome to present their research on corals to the TUNZE® company and to explain the scope of this work as well as the potential for human health. At that time, Coral Biome already had launched a crowd funding campaign to finance a mission to Hawaii in partnerships with Symbiotechs, the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB), Coral Guardian, and the Oregon State University (OSU).
Analysis of the larvae of Fungia scutaria collected in Hawaii should enable Coral Biome to better understand the mechanisms of immune regulation governing the host/symbiont relationship. A prerequisite to find solutions to protect corals against the bleaching caused by global climate change.
The discovery of new molecules with immunoregulatory and antitumoral properties in corals is the main activity of Coral Biome. Their research in partnership with several major European laboratories of Cancerology has helped to highlight several bioactive compounds of interest in the fight against cancer. One biocompound with powerful anti-tumor properties is currently in development at Coral Biome and they hopefully soon realize the first tests in clinical trials on the effects of this molecule.
TUNZE® has decided to support Coral Biome’s research and development programs by providing the cutting edge equipment to set up the experimental systems for breeding corals and producing the molecules of interest. The reliability and quality of TUNZE® equipment enables Coral Biome to initiate this research in the best conditions.
“The team of Coral Biome warmly thanked TUNZE®, especially Axel Tunze for its sponsorship and availability.”
Frédéric GAULT, President of Coral Biome
