In the overnight hours of June 9th into June 10th, 2014, Wen-Ping Su of Bali Aquarich casually announced the first successful captive breeding of the Zebra Batfish, Platax batavianus, at their facility in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.
In honor of the latest captive-breeding first, we did some digging and turned up a couple fantastic videos of the extraordinarily beautiful juvenile Zebra Batfish in the wild.
The other common name for this species, “Humpback Batfish,” alludes to the fact that as an 2-foot long adult, sadly this fish doesn’t retain it’s fantastic juvenile coloration, shape, or finnage.
At some point, you’re going to need a bigger tank. Either that, or fire up the grill!
