Readers of CORAL Magazine have hopefully noticed the “Save The Date” advertisement on page 113 of our January/February 2025 issue showcasing a new, intimate reef aquarium conference to be hosted at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. This is a non-profit event aiming to fill the need for an educational conference that exists as a result of MACNA’s 3 decades coming to a final close.
Reef Retreat begins with check-in and a social gathering on the evening of June 6th, 2025, followed by two days of conference activities on Saturday and Sunday, June 7th and 8th. Attendees can depart Sunday evening, or they will be able to purchase an additional night’s stay on campus to allow for a Monday departure.
What Is Reef Retreat?
Reef Retreat is not a frag swap nor a trade show, but it is described by organizers as “A weekend of reef aquarium education and community building. World Class speakers, workshops, discussions, and more.” Unlike many other reef aquarium events, Reef Retreat is an all-inclusive event (except for alcohol) and has a limited maximum number of attendees. As the number of tickets dwindles, the pricing also goes up, so if you’re in, it’s best not to wait to make arrangements. Once sold out, that’s it! Being held in an academic setting, attendees will be expected to agree to a code of conduct put forth by the university and organizers.
Tell Me More!
This week, the informational website for Reef Retreat has been made public, allowing readers to sign up for the email list to be notified of updates and when ticket sales go live to the public. We encourage you to visit the Contact Us page on the site to sign up for more information.
In addition, the organizers have scheduled a 1-hour informational webinar to be held via Zoom on February 8th, 2025, 8 PM Eastern / 5 PM Pacific. Click to register for the free webinar!
