Flow issues in the small display tank have been solved by using laser cut 1/4in tubing that rotates 40° for optimal flow direction. Sump optimizes equipment and filtration allowing the use of filter pads, media, and more.

The Base Model ($135) includes tank, stand (white or black, your choice), sump, 50 gph return pump, plumbing kit, and filter pad. Full models ($160) add 10W Blue LED light and mount, 5W water heater.

Also Recommended…

The Mini Reef Ready Tank Base Model and Full Model does NOT include an ATO Sensor or Temperature Controller, but they are strongly recommended additions to your tank. These two items help with stability and keeping a correct water level. PNW Custom recommends the following products that can be purchased externally:

Learn all about micro reef setup and husbandry in the January/February 2018 issue of CORAL Magazine.

Editor’s Note: Truly micro-scale reef aquariums like this can be challenging for aquarists to maintain, particularly for the inexperienced aquarist. Aquariums of this size are inherently unstable due to the very small water volume they contain; temperature and water quality parameters can destabilize quickly.

That said, micro reef aquariums can be quite successfully maintained, particularly when given the proper daily attention and routine maintenance. Unique product offerings such as these provide an easy entry point into the novel world of micro reefing, removing some of the R&D that would go into creating something from scratch.

With the right systems in place and judicious livestock choices, micro reef tanks can make for impressive displays on a rather modest budget.
