The Marine Aquarium Societies of North America (MASNA) has updated a little-known MACNA YouTube channel that showcases content from the Marine Aquarium Conference of North America (MACNA). Several presentations are available to watch—for FREE—in case you missed them or did not attend the virtual/online MACNAs of 2020 and 2021. This week, four new videos were added, which are featured below.
This FREE offering is a subset of a much larger video archive of presentations from MACNA 2021, MACNA 2021, and Mini MACNA, all of which are now available exclusively to active MASNA members. There are now 31 videos available in the MASNA Member Video archive, available with your paid membership! If you’re not a MASNA member, you can join here.
WATCH NOW: Video Highlights from MACNA 2021
Learn about the changing future of the Australian coral fishery in “Coral Collection Quotas in the Queensland, Australia Coral Fishery”, recorded in late August 2021 for MACNA 2021, September 3-5, 2021. With Heath Bezuidenhout (Salty Pets), Lyle Squire (Cairns Marine), and Daniel Kimberly (Monsoon Aquatics), hosted by MASNA President Dr. Kevin Erickson.
Tim Lyons and Dr. Kevin Erickson (MASNA) introduce you to the 2021-2022 MASNA Student Scholarship Recipients; Phoebe Churney (undergrad) and Sarah Hutchins (graduate). Learn why they were chosen and how their studies and research might impact the marine aquarium hobby of the future.
Matt Pedersen and Dr. Kevin Erickson (MASNA) are joined by Erin Pereira, Bill Capman, Tom Bowling, Richard Ross, Thomas Priscu, and Tal Sweet to recognize Kathy Leahy as the 2021 MASNA Aquarist of the Year.
Dr. Kevin Erickson and Matt Pedersen (MASNA) are joined by Julian Sprung (Two Little Fishies), Marshall Meyers, Shane Willis (Ornamental Fish International), and Alf Jacob Nilsen (2020 MASNA Award recipient) to recognize Svein A. Fosså as the 2021 MASNA Award honoree. This roundtable discussion dives deep into everything from the books authored by Fosså and Nilsen, to the current state of the marine aquarium trade and the threats that hobbyists and industry are facing, whether at the local level or on the international stage.
There’s Much More Available At MASNA.org
Again, while some MACNA videos are available freely on the MACNA YouTube channel, the bulk of the presentations are available to watch exclusively on the MASNA website.
With memberships starting at just $20/year, you could access hours of marine and reef aquarium-related content that informs and entertains. Given the amount of exclusive content you’ll find nowhere else, and would have otherwise missed unless you attended MACNA, you can’t go wrong; it currently works out to less than $1 per recording. You’ve probably rented movies for much, much more than that! If you still needed yet another reason to join MASNA, this is it!
Wondered if somewhere there exists a copy of Hugo’s Keynote Speaker presentation of “Rulers of the Sea, Zooxanthellae” at the Atlanta MACNA a number of years ago. For those who remember, that was the year I led the crew through the underside of the Aquarium. Thanks for any information. A.
