Dr. Bruce Carlson, well known to marine aquarists as the former director of the Waikiki Aquarium and chief science officer at the Georgia Aquarium, recently released a thought-provoking video showing a nautilus survey trip to Palau.
With his partner, aquarist Marj Awai, they set out to see what has happened at a Nautilus beluaensis hot spot site in Palau over the past 30 years.
The results have surprised some, and the appearance of an aggressive surprise guest at the research site has led to a conservation suggestion from Bruce to dive operators who happen to catch nautiluses.
Bruce has “retired” with Marj to Ewa Beach, Hawaii. He is a member of the CORAL Magazine Board of Advisors.
